Meet Deanne Sinnott...
Deanne is a member of The Canadian Kennel Club & The Boxer Club of Canada. As well, she also sits on the Newfoundland All Breed Kennel Club Board of Directors. This will be her third term on the board: she spent her first year as the Club Secretary and her past two years as Show/Trial Chair. Deanne still considers herself a newbie in the dog show world as she began her journey about 6 years ago. Her first handling classes were in the early months of 2012. However anyone who has met Deanne and witnessed her in the show ring, would never know the difference. She is naturally gifted handler and is an exceptional teacher.
In the Beginning...
Back in 2012, Deanne and her Boxer: Vader decided to embark on a new adventure. Under the experienced guidance of Pamela Skanes, Deanne began her journey into the unknown. She had always been fascinated watching the televised dog shows over the years, however she had no idea that such dog shows existed in and around the city region.
The first dog show they entered together was in April 2012. Deanne shared with us that she thought her anxiety would keep her from exhibiting Vader that first day. However with Pam's encouragement and reminding her of how hard they had practiced, she went for it! Deanne overcame her fear of trying something new and stepped outside her comfort zone. The end result was a true feeling of accomplishment! To this day, she still says it was the best decision she could have made. She didn't walk away with any points that day, but wins don’t always come in the form of ribbons or points. Deanne told us that day when she left the building, she felt like she had won and knew she was hooked!
Initially Deanne and her family had gotten Vader as a companion/family pet. He was the first Boxer to steal her heart! Needless to say, Deanne was thrilled with their accomplishments when Vader finished his Canadian Championship in just five weekends of showing (not bad for a couple of newbies!)! Although, Vader did fair in the conformation ring, he didn’t love it as much as Deanne did, so they turned his energy and their focus to Rally. Since then Vader has earned his Rally Novice title.
Deanne had officially been bitten by the 'show dog bug' and loved everything about it. She wanted a more competitive show dog, so the search began in late 2012. All the dogs/lines/pedigrees she was drawn to went back to ‘Hector’: (AmCh.Pheasant Hollows Macho Camacho, SOM). This looked to be a good solid line to start her own breeding program from, as it seemed to be a line that was producing sound, solid, healthy dogs consistently!
Now, Deanne had to just obtain a Hector puppy. However like all good things, often one must wait.
In October 2013 Deanne went to Ontario to the Boxer Club of Canada Regional Specialty & Western Boxer Club of Ontario Specialty to network with some breeders. It was there she met Melissa & Mark Mathers of Vanquish Boxers. Deanne had no idea at the time what great friends they would become. She also had no idea they were considering breeding their lovely Esme aka Can.Ch. Cinnrhee Heartacre Raisin Kane, DOM to the handsome Hector!
Could it be real? Was there a possibility that Deanne could have a Hector puppy?
Fast forward to November 22nd, 2014 and lone behold, Esme had 6 beautiful healthy boxer babies!
Deanne brought Miss London home to NL in February 2015. They were so excited to start conformation handling classes with Peter Drake. Deanne shared with us that it was safe to say that some of our wins/successes in the ring were compliments of Peter's instruction. They also joined in classes with Elizabeth Zedel , who taught them some solid, valuable information, which of course helped us in the ring as well. Without the knowledge and experience of the three previously mentioned instructors, Deanne says with confidence that she wouldn’t know half as much about showing dogs as she does today. In addition to taking these handling classes numerous times, she has completed the Structure in Action Seminar with Mrs. Patricia Hastings, a widely respected authority on puppy evaluation. Mrs. Hasting says, ‘the more we learn, the more our dogs benefit’ This seminar helped Deanne better understand how the structure of the dog greatly affects how the dog moves!
