NKC Awards

The Newfoundland (All Breed) Kennel Club Awards
 
Each year the NKC presents a set of prestigious awards (trophies).  These awards are the hallmark of the NKC and were created in honor of some of the founding members and/or by long standing members of the NKC.
These awards are meant to celebrate the commitment and achievement in the sport and are perpetual awards, which include the following:


 Top Dog Award:
  • The NKC presents this award to the NKC member whose dog achieved the highest number of points during the NKC membership year.​ (Currently October 1st of any given year to September 30th of the next year)
  • Points are calculated based on one point for every dog defeated at the Breed level, Group level and Best In Show level. This award was created in 1990 by Fred and Kay Baxtrome.
 
Kaegudeck Award:
  • This award is presented to the NKC member, whose dog is the top winning dog at All-Breed shows held in the Province of Newfoundland during the NKC membership year.  (Currently October 1st of any given year to September 30th of the next year)
  • ​​This award is offered by Rob & Liz Crosbie:  breeders of Newfoundland Dogs and Schipperke under the Kaegudeck prefix.
 Points towards this trophy will be determined in the following manner:
BREEDS COMPETING        GROUP 1st     GROUP 2nd     GROUP 3rd       GROUP 4th
11 or more                                           5                      4                      3                      2
10 or less                                             4                      3                      2                      1
For an All-Breed Best in Show - a total of 8 points (the greatest number of points that can be earned at any one show is 8)
 

The Blood Sweat & Tears Award:
  • The NKC presents this award to the NKC member, who is the breeder/owner of the dog achieving the highest number of points during the membership year based on one point for every dog defeated at the Breed level, Group level and Best in Show level. (Currently October 1st of any given year to September 30th of the next year)
  • This award was created in 1995 by Jim Barrett of Snohomish Golden Retrievers and Judi Elford of Vanderbilt Samoyeds.
  • ​This award was retired by Peter & Marilyn Drake, Featherstep American Cockers in 2001 and then they kindly  re-donated the award  to the NKC club to be awarded annually. The trophy can no longer be retired.

Top Puppy Award:
  • The NKC presents this award to the NKC member whose puppy is the top winning puppy at All-Breed shows held in the Province of Newfoundland during the NKC membership year.​ (Currently October 1st of any given year to September 30th of the consecutive year)
  • Points are calculated on one point per puppy defeated at the Breed level, Group level, and Best Puppy in Show level.
 
Harriett Sheppard Trophy For Obedience:
  •  The NKC presents this trophy to the owner of the HIGHEST SCORING OBEDIENCE DOG in Newfoundland based on the highest, three qualifying scores won by a Newfoundland owned dog at obedience trials held in Newfoundland during the NKC membership year.​  Currently October 1st of any given year to September 30th of the next year)
 
The Debbie Barrett Trophies:
  • The NKC presents these trophies at the July Show.  They are , presented to the Best In Show and Best Puppy In Show recipients. These trophies were donated by Debbie’s husband: Jim Barrett and her co-workers in her memory.  Debbie and Jim were long time, active members who bred Golden Retrievers under the Snohomish prefix.
